"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself" - Luke 10:27
But how can someone love God in that way when their heart, soul and mind have been wounded by trauma? How can they engage with scripture or live an abundant life when they're inmost being, their way of understanding, their thought patterns and emotions have been damaged, and they hurt so deeply?
Trauma exists in virtually every community. And as people of faith, we need to know how to ask the right questions and speak with compassion to those who are living with the effects of trauma. Several years ago I became trained as a Master Facilitator through the Trauma Healing Institute's three year program of Healing the Wounds of the Heart. My hope is to equip others by offering a layman's guide to speaking into the hearts of those who have experienced trauma. This program changed my life and my prayer is that it will change yours.

Every place of faith should be safe and provide a place for healing. Going through the Healing the Wounds of the Heart program will help you to offer a place where healing can begin and a relationship with God and others can be restored.
Your church or nonprofit may have ready-made groups who would benefit from a trauma informed care workshop. Your Board, pastoral staff, Stephen Ministers, small groups, or nonprofit staff can all be trained to listen well, show compassion, and speak into trauma in a two-day session. After two days you will have tools to offer healing and hope, underpinned with faith in God’s boundless love and mercy.
